Ever stop and watch people? It is especially fascinating if you are in a crowd. A Face in the Crowd was a photography assignment that turned out to be more enjoyable than I had anticipated. I love street photography but I find it intimidating so I have to work up my courage to get out and do it. Because most people don’t know you are photographing them it is possible to get some candid shots. If you look long enough you might find a story line for each of these characters. What are they thinking, where are they going, what are they doing? Sometimes I think the poses and forms of Yoga and Tai Chi are like that. Each pose and form has their own story line that you can tap into. What is the pose or form telling you? Does it resonate with you? What picture, memories or emotions do they elicit. Then maybe the form or pose becomes your story. You may not do them perfectly as I did not get the most beautiful composition in the photos below. But I wasn’t looking for the perfect composition. I was looking for something more – joy, wonder, reflection, depression, friendship, whatever is out there to see – a kaleidoscope of human expression and emotion. Isn’t that why we practice Tai Chi and Yoga? To dive inside and see what the forms tell us about ourselves. Looked at in this way these beautiful art forms open us to ourselves.
